Much of the gameplay in Belladonna consists of reading texts. The game is not a visual novel, just a lot of notes. Technically, this is a two-dimensional quest where you have to travel between screens and solve puzzles. Management is carried out by the mouse. The project is fleeting, and it can be mastered in one evening.
The story is about Dr Wolfram von Trauerschloss and his wife Belladonna. The couple loses a child and falls into despair. A scientist tries to conquer death. In his quest, he falls into obsession. The emphasis is on a dark and gothic atmosphere. The story takes on themes of animal cruelty, body abuse, and same-sex love.
In Belladonna, the main character is the revived corpse of a girl. A dead woman wakes up in an abandoned laboratory. Her torso is covered in bandages, and bizarre iron devices protrude from her head and arms. She remembers nothing and is trying to unravel the mysteries associated with her death and subsequent resurrection.
The guest from the underworld will visit a winter cemetery, a greenhouse, a kind of morgue, a library, a dining room and other parts of the mysterious mansion. The plot is presented with the help of diaries and letters written in a noble style. They are highlighted in the levels, so you don't have to deal with pixel hunting. The puzzles are logical, and clues are often given to solve them. There is only one ending.
