Anodyne is an action-adventure role-playing game that uses pixel art that harkens back to the days of 16-bit consoles, as well as a top-mounted camera. This view of a fictional magical world with many fascinating dungeons, quests and a mountain of loot (and valuable collectibles that are hidden in secret places) is reminiscent of Zelda. Indie developers have been inspired by this classic when creating their own creation, which received several unique mechanics that distinguish the game from the rest of the genre.
Throughout the story adventure, the user will have to explore the worlds that are built inside the imagination of a man named Yang. They include lush castles, large areas planted with trees, caves that are in the possession of enemies and many other locations. There is always a small, schematic map on top, which helps to navigate in space and remember the necessary points on the ground. To advance further in Yang's fantasy, the player must search the lands for clues, which unlock access to further adventures.
