Avernum 2: Crystal Souls continues the events of the previous part of the trilogy. The protagonist killed the cruel ruler of the surface. However, the death of the lord did not end the war. For the sake of revenge, the subjects of the Empire went underground and staged a big purge, destroying the population of the caves. It is necessary to stop the bloody massacre and fight back the intruders.
A squad of 4 characters passes under the command of the player. There are several races: humans, nephiles (similar to cats) and lizards. There are 10 types of heroes: sorcerers, soldiers, berserkers, archers and others. The choice of class determines the starting skills. A total of 28 skills can be mastered, from melee weapons to first aid. There are also magical artifacts that give abilities - attacking, blessing and healing spells.
As you progress through the level of the character increases. Experience points are obtained in battles. There is a turn-based combat system - nothing can be done during the opponent's turn. In battle, the heroes use weapons for different distances and magical tricks. Damage taken reduces armor.
Avernum 2: Crystal Souls has a large world to explore. There are over 100 cities and dungeons on the map. Many different races live here, differing in appearance and culture. The gameplay includes 3 main quests - different ways of dealing with strangers. You can go through just one or all. The ending changes depending on the choice made. In addition to story missions, there are side tasks that do not affect the plot - from the category of "find-bring".
